📖 What Is Body Fat Percentage?
Body fat percentage is the proportion of your total body weight that is fat tissue. It is more useful than weight alone because two people at the same weight can have very different levels of fat and muscle.
Unlike BMI, body fat percentage distinguishes between fat mass and lean mass. This makes it a better indicator of health risks and physical fitness.
📏 How to Measure Correctly
Waist: Measure at navel level. Keep the tape snug but not compressing. Stand relaxed.
Neck: Measure just below the larynx. Keep the tape level.
Hips (women): Measure at the widest point of the buttocks with feet together.
For best results, measure in the morning before eating. Take each measurement twice and use the average.
❓ FAQ
How accurate is this? Tape-measure methods are typically within 3–4% of lab methods like DEXA. Track trends over time rather than obsessing over one number.
What's healthy? Men: 10–20%. Women: 18–28%. Athletes sit lower, but extremely low body fat carries health risks.
Smart scale vs tape measure? Consumer scales vary widely based on hydration and time of day. Tape measurements are more repeatable when done carefully.
